President Park Geun-hye's approval rating remained at record-low 4 percent this week, data showed Friday,

In a survey by Gallup Korea, only 4 percent of the respondents supported Park, unchanged from a week earlier, while 91 percent disapproved her, down 2 percentage points.

The survey was conducted on 1,003 South Koreans with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

In 2016, her approval rating hovered around 29 to 34 percent since April's general election but sharply decreased since October amid the escalating scandal surrounding her confidante Choi Soon-sil, who allegedly exerted influence on state affairs while enjoying unlawful benefits.

While the ruling and opposition parties have been at odds on details of Park's ouster, they have generally reached a consensus that she will not be able to complete the full term.

On Tuesday, Park delivered her third public speech since the outbreak of the scandal, requesting that parliament determine her fate.

The ruling Saenuri Party's approval rating came to 15 percent, up 3 percentage points from a week earlier. It regained the No. 2 spot after falling behind the People's Party last week. The splinter party held a comparable figure of 14 percent.

The main opposition Democratic Party remained the most favored political party at 34 percent, remaining unchanged on-week. (Yonhap)
