Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-youn and former Heritage Foundation chief Edwin J. Feulner discussed Korea-US economic relations, Northeast Asia affairs, and the prospects of renewable energy in central Seoul on Monday afternoon, the company said Tuesday.

“In the midst of a frosty political climate in Northeast Asia surrounding the Korean Peninsula, I ask for your help in taking Korea-US relations to the next level,” Kim was quoted as saying to Feulner during the meeting.

The two also shared views on the policy direction of the renewable energy market following the Paris climate agreement last year, and on ways for Hanhwa to expand its presence in the field.

Kim, who emphasizes the need for nongovernmental exchanges, has maintained a close relationship with Feulner over the years, according to the company officials. The two also met in February.

In recognition of Kim’s efforts, the foundation named its second floor conference center at the Heritage Building in Washington D.C. the Kim Seung Youn Conference Center. Feulner has led the think tank from 1977 to 2013.
