Samsung seeks Chinese talent for top consulting team

[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Group is seeking Chinese talent to join its top consulting team Global Strategy Group.

According to Korea Economic Daily on Sept. 28, the nation’s largest conglomerate recently held a recruiting event at top elite schools, including Beijing University, Xinghua University and China Europe International Business School.

It is the first time that Samsung has held the event that used to be held in the US and Europe in China since Global Strategy Group was launched in 1997 under the direction of Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Kun-hee.

Together with the three Chinese schools, the event traveled to 19 Ivy League schools in the US and other top schools in Europe such as the London School of Economics, the report said.

The Global Strategy Group aims to offer consultations when Samsung companies enter a new business or their existing businesses struggle. The applicants are required to hold an MBA or a master degree in management and a job experience for more than three years.

Currently, some 100 people from 20 countries are working at the team. Almost half of them are relocated to other Samsung affiliates every year while about 50 people are newly hired.

“They work in Seoul for two to three years to learn about Korea and Samsung and then are dispatched to work as a key executive at overseas operations around the world,” an industry source was quoted as saying by the daily.
