[THE INVESTOR] Sales of Renault Samsung Motors jumped 51.5 percent from a year earlier in August as exports nearly doubled while domestic sales also gained sharply, the company said on Sept. 1.

Overall sales of Renault Samsung came to 15,240 cars last month, compared with 10,057 cars sold globally in the same month last year.

Domestic sales spiked 24.4 percent on-year to 7,713 cars, while exports soared 95.2 percent to 7,527 vehicles, according to the company.



The sharp increase in sales was attributed to a new lineup of vehicle models recently launched that include the all new SM6 passenger sedan and the QM5 sport utility vehicle.

Sales in the first eight months of the year reached 157,654 cars, up 12.2 percent from the same period last year. Domestic sales jumped 23.6 percent on-year to 61,982 cars over the cited period, with exports growing 5.8 percent to 95,672 cars.
