[THE INVESTOR] Ssangyong Motor said Sept. 1 it sales surged 13.1 percent from a year earlier in August as its domestic sales grew slightly while exports skyrocketed.

The carmaker sold 12,178 cars globally last month, compared with 10,771 cars sold in the same month last year.

Domestic sales gained 2.1 percent on-year to 7,676 cars, while exports spiked 38.4 percent to 4,502.

The company said only its limited output prevented a better performance.

Tivoli Tivoli

The Tivoli brand models still led the company’s sales momentum as their sales were up 24.9 percent over the same month last year.

“Even though demand for the model steadily increases, the company has difficulty meeting demand due to the short working days affected by summer vacations in August,” it said in a press release.

In the first eight months of the year, the automaker’s global sales increased 7.9 percent on-year to 99,449 cars.
