South Korean archers and a veteran pistol shooter were on target at the Rio de Janeiro Summer Games, as they made their way into the record books.

South Korea completed an unprecedented title sweep in archery.

It all started with the men's team victory, followed by the women's team gold.

Chang Hye-jin overcame some disastrous scores in windy conditions to take the women's individual gold. Ku Bon-chan capped off the historic run by capturing the men's individual title.

In the process, Ku became the first South Korean male archer to win two gold medals at a single Olympics.

Ku's teammate, Kim Woo-jin, set a 72-arrow world record in the individual ranking round at the start of the Games, scoring 700 points. It was the first world record set in Rio. Though Kim contributed to the team gold medal, he was stunned in the round of 32 in the individual event.

In shooting, Jin Jong-oh won his third straight Olympic gold in the 50m pistol, and became the first shooter, man or woman, to win a single event at three consecutive Olympics.

Jin is also the first South Korean athlete to win at least a gold at three Olympics in a row, winter or summer.

With four golds and two silvers, Jin is tied with former archer Kim Soo-nyung for most Olympic medals won by a South Korean. The two are also level with four gold medals.

Jin, 36, has said he isn't about to retire because he still has a pure love of the sport. Jin could well surpass Kim in the medal count should he decided to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. (Yonhap)
