Mobile game firm Gamevil sees Q2 operating profit soar 845%

[THE INVESTOR] Mobile game firm Gamevil said Aug. 10 that it posted an operating profit of 2.2 billion won ($2 million), up 845 percent in the April-June period from a year earlier.

Its revenue came in at 43.2 billion won, up 16 percent compared to the same period last year. The combined revenue of the first two quarters stood at a record 84 billion, up 15 percent from a year earlier.

Its affiliate Com2uS also posted solid earnings growth in the second quarter this year with its operating income standing at 48.6 billion won, up 21 percent on-year. Its sales stood at 126.6 billion won, up 17 percent on-year.

Gamevil took over Com2uS in 2013.

The two companies saw strong growth in overseas markets during the first half this year.

Nearly 60 percent of Gamevil’s revenue in the first half came from the global markets while Com2uS earned 86 percent of its sales overseas.

As of May, the number of downloads for Com2uS’s flagship game “Summoners War”, exceeded 60 million worldwide, gaining popularity in Asia, the US and Europe.

Gamevil’s “Be a Star,” “Dragon Blaze,” and “Kritika: The White Knights” boosted the earnings of the firm in the Asia-Pacific region.

Gamevil said that it would push the envelope to maintain growth momentum by rolling out new games including virtual reality and augmented reality games.
