Shinhan Bank, the flagship unit of South Korea's Shinhan Financial Group Co., said Tuesday that it has introduced flexible working arrangements for its employees, a move that could help them juggle work and family life.

The bank said all employees -- who can work without accessing the bank's computer network -- are eligible to work at home.

It said those who work in such sectors as planning ideas and developing products and designs can work in their homes.

The bank said employees can work at their home for up to seven days at a time, which can be extended repeatedly if approved by their supervisors.

The bank began flexible working arrangements on Monday, though it has no figures yet on how many people opt to work at home.

It has also set up three Smart Work Centers in Seoul to make sure that some eligible employees can work there without having to travel to their main offices.

In addition, the bank has allowed its employees to adjust their working hours, though they should still work eight hours a day and 40 hours per week.

Cho Yong-byoung, head of Shinhan Bank, said the smart work system is meant to establish a culture in which people can work efficiently without time or space limitations. (Yonhap)
