South Korea on Monday condemned the terrorist attack that killed more than 100 people in Iraq, saying terrorism cannot be condoned for whatever reason.

The suicide truck bomb attack, claimed by the Islamic State group, took place in downtown Baghdad Sunday, killing at least 125 people and injuring more than 150 others, according to Seoul's foreign ministry.

"Our government expresses deep shock and concern over the loss of numerous lives from the terrorism in central Baghdad, and strongly condemns this terrorist attack," the ministry said in a statement.

The government offers its condolences to the victims, their families and the Iraqi government and people while reaffirming its position that terrorism cannot be condoned under any circumstances, it said.

"We will continue to join the international community's efforts to eradicate terrorism," the statement added. (Yonhap)
