In her first solo EP “I Just Wanna Dance,” Tiffany of famed girl group Girls’ Generation is stripped of her usual glitziness. The cover features her in a loose-fitting slip, while the album’s title is sprawled in minimal font against a pink background -- perhaps in a nod to the singer‘s famous fondness for the color.

The sounds match the visuals, conveying that hazy old-school feeling trending these days.

The album comprises six soft, retro-pop tracks. The main track “I Just Wanna Dance,” true to its title, sings of wanting to dance the night away. But unlike its lyrics, which talk about letting loose and being one’s “real” self, the track itself feels restrained, with a weak climax and no burst of emotion.

“Yellow Light” and “What Do I Do,” composed by Tiffany with lyrics written by bandmate Sooyoung, have a distinctly ’90s feel to them.

On the whole, the album is stylish, but one can’t help feeling the somewhat listless album lacks the vitality expected from Tiffany. In any case, the sounds are expertly mixed and polished, as per your usual S.M. production.
