Philips Korea, the local unit of the health technology firm based in the Netherlands, said Wednesday it had installed its first spectral detector-based computed tomography at Seoul National University Hospital.

According to the firm, the installed CT system “IQon Spectral CT” is the first commercial installation in Asia. The company said it would strengthen diagnostic and treatment capabilities of the hospital. 

"This innovative technology provides real-time, diagnostic, spectral solutions routinely for every patient at a low dose,” said Dominique Oh, Philips Korea CEO.

Philips’ spectral CT, unlike traditional CT equipment, provides multiple layers of retrospective, diagnostic data in a single, low-dose scan, minimizing the patient’s radiation exposure, the company said.

The company is expecting the system will create mutual benefits for the hospital and the patients.

“Providing more data and high quality images in a single scan, not only saves time and money, but also allows clinicians to improve patient care,” added Mikael Strindlund, CT general manager at Philips.
