[Graphic News] Terrorism deaths up 80% in 2014

The death toll from terrorist attacks increased to 32,658 in 2014 from 18,011 the previous year, according to the Global Terrorism Index released by the Institute for Economics and Peace on Monday.

The victims were largely concentrated in Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan and Syria - up to 77 percent of the total.

Parts of Iraq and Syria are under the influence of Sunni Armed Forces while Boko Haram is actively exercising its power in Nigeria.

Among the five countries, Iraq had the highest number of victims, at 9,929. The largest increase in number of victims was in Nigeria - 300 percent.

Meanwhile, 35 countries including South Korea, North Korea and Japan did not suffer any terrorist attacks.
