South Korea's ICT ministry said Tuesday it has agreed with its Thailand counterpart to exchange content and experts in the broadcasting industry, paving the way for Seoul to tap deeper into the Asian market.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, with an aim to bolster the sales of the local media's content in Southeast Asia.

The ministry added South Korean media content has been gaining popularity in Thailand, with demand for Korean-made content expected to further grow in the near future following the launch of new TV channels and a rising number of mobile viewers.

The necessity to tap into the Southeast Asian markets became vital for the South Korean media industry due to the limited number of domestic users, the ministry also said.

The ministry said it has clinched agreements with 23 media firms in six Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, as of end-October. (Yonhap)
