Ten-member boy band Up10tion is the latest addition to the K-pop scene, and their debut EP “Top Secret” shows they are determined to get attention with flashy music reflecting the latest trends.

After an intense intro, the album heads straight into the lead track “So, Dangerous,” produced by the composer who wrote EXO’s megahit “Growl.” The pounding dance track is reminiscent of “Growl,” with a dramatic structure and lyrics about wanting to protect a girl from the other men who prowl around her.

The mood lightens with “Come As You Are,” which tells a girl to not bother with makeup or high heels because she’s beautiful just as she is. The rhythmical “Never Ending” was written for the group by fellow TOP Media artist Changjo of Teen Top, and shows off the group’s vocals.

“Phoenix” is an interesting mix of hip-hop and R&B rhythms, starting off with a thumping verse that brings to mind TVXQ’s song “Mirotic” and eventually relaxing into a more vocal chorus. “Come With Me” is an upbeat medium-tempo pop number that has a groove that’s easy on the ears.

Like most other large groups, Up10tion lacks a unique color because the tracks hope to highlight the varied talents of the many members. Still, the tracklist on “Top Secret” demonstrates that the group is able to pull off trendy dance tracks that are always fan favorites.
