Korea Midland Power Co., one of six power generation affiliates of the state-run Korea Electric Power Corp., is looking to transform the cities of Boryeong and Seocheon into the global energy hub of South Korea.

KOMIPO took the first step toward such a goal in May by transferring its headquarters from Seoul to Boryeong in South Chungcheong Province, where the company operates a major coal-based power generation plant with an energy output of 8.76 million kilowatts.

KOMIPO signs a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Industrial Complex Corp., Boryeong City and Seocheon County in March to build up the nation’s largest power generation cluster in South Chungcheong Province over the next 10 years. Aiming to transform the region into an energy production hub recognized by the world, KOMIPO signed a memorandum of understanding in March with the Korea Industrial Complex Corp., Boryeong City and Seocheon County to invest around 900 billion won ($760 million) for the next 10 years to build the nation’s largest “power generation cluster.“

Such forthcoming efforts are expected to move forward South Chungcheong Province’s stated plans to turn the region into a green belt for eco-friendly power production as well, according to KOMIPO.

“As a state-run corporation, we are looking to encourage cooperation between different institutions and offer up the best services for the public, as well support the Korean government’s drive to build a creative economy,” a KOMIPO representative said.
