Senior government officials from South Korea and Ghana will meet in Accra next week for their first policy talks since their countries' establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

On Monday, Kwon Hee-seog, director-general of the ministry's Africa and Middle East affairs bureau, will meet with Muhammed Fuseini Inusah, director-general of the Ghanaian foreign ministry's Asia and Pacific affairs bureau, to discuss cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade, development and culture, the South Korean ministry said in a press release.

The meeting is expected to help establish a regular channel of dialogue ahead of the 40th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties in 2017, and promote stronger practical cooperation between the two sides, it said.

In recent years, South Korea has taken various steps to enhance relations with Africa, a resources-rich continent undergoing above-average growth.

In the first half of this year, Seoul held bilateral talks with 12 African countries, including Angola, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se has said President Park Geun-hye is considering a trip to Africa, with diplomatic sources saying it could come in the first half of next year. (Yonhap)
