President Park Geun-hye pledged Tuesday that South Korea will join global efforts to ensure that every child in the world receives education.
  

"'The Miracle of the Han River,' which describes South Korea's growth out of poverty was the result of education," she said at the opening ceremony of the World Education Forum 2015, which kicked off in Incheon, west of Seoul.
  

South Korea will strive to transfer the use of information and communication technology to developing countries, which could increase children's access to education and raise the quality, she said.
  

South Korea last year became a donor to Global Partnership for Education, an international organization working to build universal access to education for children, and pledged to contribute $5 million to further its goals.
  

More than 1,500 educators, policy-makers, heads of international organizations and experts gathered at the education forum, which is being held in South Korea for the third time.
  

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim are among the prominent figures at the three-day event.
  

Under the theme "Transforming Life through Education," participants will evaluate progress made towards meeting the Millennium Development Goals to ensure every child receives primary education, set by the United Nations member states 15 years ago.
  

The deadline was set for this year and the goals will be renewed in September under the name Sustainable Development Goals.
  

The forum consists of four plenary sessions, six thematic discussions and 20 parallel group sessions and other exhibitions and events. It ends on Friday. (Yonhap)
