More than 1,000 vehicles, produced by Italian automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and French manufacturer Peugeot Citroen Automobiles, are being recalled in South Korea due to defects, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Friday.

Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 231 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs, produced between March 27, 2013 and Jan. 13, 2014, over a flaw in the air bag control system, which could prevent the safety device from normally deploying in a crash.

Hanbul Motors, the importer and distributor of Peugeot and Citroen cars, is recalling 798 passenger vehicles over faults in the frontal suspension system, which could hamper the vehicle’s steering control and create unnecessary noise.

The recall includes 349 Peugeot 308 units manufactured between Jan. 15 and Nov. 13 in 2014; 94 Peugeot 308SW units produced between April 22 and Nov. 26 in 2014; 337 Citroen Grand C4 Picasso units made between Nov. 12, 2013 and Nov. 14, 2014; and 18 C4 Picasso units produced between July 3 and Oct. 13 in 2014.

Starting Friday, car owners, affected by the recall, can bring their vehicles to the FCA Korea service center and the Hanbul Motors service center for free repairs. The auto companies have also sent out information regarding the recall procedure via post.

Those who have already repaired the defects on their own can apply for a reimbursement for the associated costs, the ministry said.
