South Korean salaried workers spend an average of 917,400 won ($840) per month, data showed Wednesday.

In a survey of 848 male and female workers, job-seeker website Job Korea found that married employees spent an average of 1.58 million won, 2.4 times more than single workers, who spent 670,000 won.

About 72 percent of those surveyed said food was a major expense, while 46.7 percent pointed to traffic and car maintenance.

Telecommunications (32.0 percent) took third place, followed by housing rent (28.8 percent), shopping (17.1 percent), loans (14.4 percent), insurance (12.5 percent), savings (12.5 percent) and child care (9.4 percent). Meanwhile, 80.4 percent of participants responded that they were not satisfied with their spending habits, while 19.5 percent said they were.
