President Park Geun-hye needs to rest for up to two days due to stomach cramps and a sore throat after her recent trip to South America, the presidential office said Monday.
After returning home from the 12-day trip earlier in the day, Park was diagnosed with the health problems that require "an absolute rest of one or two days," presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook said in a briefing.
"Park strove to achieve the goals of the tour despite the severe stomachache and a slight fever she suffered throughout the four-nation trip to South America," Min noted.
The reasons for her poor health were overwork and chronic fatigue, the spokesman said, adding that her condition was not good throughout the 12-day trip.
Park's health also barred her from holding the usual conference with reporters aboard Air Force One.
Her health is expected to affect the timing of her decision on whether to accept Prime Minister Lee Wan-koo's resignation proposal, as well as her chairing of a Cabinet meeting Tuesday.
Lee expressed his intention to step down last week amid a growing bribery scandal involving a late businessman. Park had said she will decide Lee's fate after returning home. (Yonhap)
