U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Mark Lippert has expressed his wishes for a successful Presidents Cup in South Korea.

The biennial competition is making its first Asian stop in Incheon, west of Seoul, from Oct. 6-11.

On Thursday, the U.S. envoy wrote, "The Presidents Cup tournament! In South Korea from Oct. (6)-11, 2015! It'll be fun!!!" in Korean on his official Twitter page.

Lippert, 42, the youngest U.S. ambassador to Seoul, has been popular among locals following a knife attack on him by a South Korean man in March.

Organizers said Lippert met with Jay Monahan, deputy commissioner of the PGA Tour, and Ryu Jin, chief organizer of this year's Presidents Cup, last week.

He said he is happy the tournament is taking place in South Korea and pledged to do everything he can to help it succeed.

A day earlier, Lippert threw out the first ball at a local baseball game between the Doosan Bears and the Lotte Giants in southeastern Seoul.

The Presidents Cup is a men's golf tournament between a team representing the U.S. and another representing the rest of the world, except for Europe. (Yonhap)
