With less than three months until the opening ceremony of the 28th Summer Universiade, the Gwangju 2015 Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC) welcomed the Universiade Supervision Committee (CSU) to evaluate and assess preparations.

FISUCSU Chair Kemal TAMER, FISU CSU Vice-Chair Hisato IGARASHI, CSU Member Kenny CHOW, FISU CSU Member Shen ZHEN, Summer Universiade Director Marc VANDENPLAS, Summer Universiade Manager Jing ZHAO, FISU Sport Assistant Melanie STALLECKER and other officials took part in the event.

Representatives from the 2017 Taipei Universiade Organizing Committee (CEO Li-Fang CHOU, Deputy CEO Chuen-Ming HSUEH, Deputy CEO Ming-Shiun CHEN, Executive Director-General Chia-Wen HUNG, and CTUSF delegate Wei-Jen CHEN) also attended the CSU meeting as a part of the Gwangju 2015 Observer Program.

The CSU inspection kicked off by visiting the Universiade Village site. The FISU delegation visited several functional facilities in the village including the Accreditation Center and Main Information Center.

After a thorough venue check, CSU Chair Kemal TAMER said, “Preparations for the Universiade Village are satisfactory. The facilities and rooms are clean and well put together for over 12,000 athletes and officials around the world who plan to participate in the Gwangju Universiade”

The venue inspection was followed by representatives from the GUOC delivering presentations on the host city’s readiness for the games which include safety and security, accreditation, accommodation, and catering.

One of the FISU delegates mentioned, “Security for drop off points in the Universiade Village should be strengthened. In addition, the language services that are provided during the accreditation process should be superb. Athletes and officials do not want to waste time on their first day in Gwangju due to language barriers.”

Over the next three days, more meetings and venue inspections will take place. The CSU inspection will be a great opportunity for the FISU delegation to get a better understanding of how work is conducted across all functional areas through visiting competition venues and facilities and in depth meetings.
