Samsung SDS said Tuesday it had teamed up with Oracle, the U.S. software giant, to make inroads into China, a soaring market for logistics IT.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding, under which Samsung SDS promotes its logistics and analysis solutions through Oracle’s database and software systems.

Samsung SDS, a leading IT solutions provider, has helped enterprise clients to comprehensively operate and manage their logistics businesses and networks, from planning and sourcing to data analysis and execution.

Its solutions also allow users to track goods shipped overseas in real time and forecast demand via sensors and data analytics, two key components of the Internet of Things.

According to research firm Gartner, the global logistics IT market will grow from the current $10.3 billion to $14.6 billion by 2018. During the period, the annual growth rate in China is to reach 16.5 percent, outpacing the industry average of 9.5 percent.

Samsung SDS said it also plans to strengthen its cloud service by further adopting Oracle’s solutions.

“Our logistics and analysis solutions are the culmination of our technological prowess,” said Im Soo-hyun, head of business planning at Samsung SDS.

“Samsung SDS will seek to extend its partnership with other global companies.”
