A group of South Korean businessmen visited the joint inter-Korean factory park in the North's border town of Kaesong Tuesday as part of efforts to help boost sales of its products, the unification ministry said.

The 42 businessmen working overseas arrived at the Kaesong Industrial Complex earlier in the morning for a one-day trip to discuss deals to buy products manufactured there, according to the Ministry of Unification.

"The visit will include consultations on buying deals with manufacturers operating in the joint park and is expected to help expand their sales routes," a ministry official said.

The 10-year-old industrial park, the last-remaining major inter-Korean economic project, is home to about 120 South Korean firms that employ 53,000 North Korean employees. The zone is designed to combine the North's cheap labor and the South's capital and technology.

Border crossings to Kaesong resumed earlier on Tuesday after being shut down since Monday evening due to a fire in the border area.

The fire first started on the North Korean side and spread into the demilitarized zone, a wide military buffer area thick with forests that bisects the two Koreas. No casualties were reported. (Yonhap)
