According to “The Internet Economy in the G20,” a report for Google by the Boston Consulting Group, the daily lives of Koreans are closely connected to smart devices and mobile Internet. They found that Koreans saw mobile connectivity as more important than other habits and lifestyles.
About 60 percent said they would give up alcohol or coffee before giving up their mobile connections, and 20 percent would give up taking showers.
The size of South Korea’s mobile Internet economy was about $28 billion, about 2 percent of its GDP. The contribution of mobile Internet to Korea’s GDP is expected to increase by 10 percent each year, and was predicted to reach $40 billion by 2017.
