RIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- Cheong Wa Dae said on Tuesday that the office respects the parliament’s decision to pass the controversial anticorruption bill.

“We expect that the legislation of the law can bring an opportunity to drastically eradicate accumulated evil in our society including corruption and bribery,” presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook told reporters after the presidential jet touched down in Riyadh.

Min, who is accompanying President Park Geun-hye on her trip to four Middle East nations, also said the government would prepare for the implementation of the law and follow-up measures.

The remark came on Park’s third day of her nine-day trip to the Gulf nations.

After Saudi Arabia, Park is set to visit the UAE and Qatar.

She returns to Seoul on March 9.
