Daegu Softball League opened signups for new players to the league on Feb. 4.

In its ninth year, the coed league has 10 teams of 11 players, chosen through a draft system. A rookie game before the draft gives the captains a chance to evaluate new players.

“The league is truly amazing and gets better every year,” said Rob McClure, one of the organizers.

McClure said that there were no skill requirements in the league, just a need for commitment.

“The only requirement we ask is that folks set their alarms and make it every Sunday to play ball,” he said. “Although a recreation league, captains and players alike do take the ‘pursuit for the cup’ very seriously.”

The regular season will run from April 5 to June 21, and league fees are 75,000 won ($68.66), which covers equipment, jerseys, playing space and two parties. Players should have their own glove and shoes.

The fees also cover an opening party, at which the players find out what team they’ll be playing for and meet new players, and an awards party at the end of the season.

McClure said that one of the things that made these parties a highlight were videos of the league made by one of the players.

“Jeff Molasky compiles countless photographs and endless hours of video each year. From this repository he edits and produces two utterly amazing videos for the league,” he said.

“If you talk with anyone who has been in the League for a while, I’m sure the Molasky videos will be one of the first topics of conversation.”
