South Korean director Bong Joon-ho of "Snowpiercer" has been named as an international jury member of this year's Berlin Film Festival, the festival's executive committee said.

This marks the second time that a Korean national has been appointed to be the festival's jury member since actress Lee Young-ae in 2006.

Bong's name was included on the six-member jury led by Darren Aronofsky, best known for "Black Swan" and"Noah," announced

Tuesday on the festival's official website.

The other members of the jury were "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner, "Rush" actor Daniel Bruhl, "Hannibal" producer Martha De Laurentiis, "The Milk of Sorrow" director Claudia Llosa, and "Amelie" actress Audrey Tautou.

The international jury decides the winners of the Golden Bear, the festival's top honor, and Silver Bears in seven categories, during the 65th festival scheduled for Feb. 5-15.

Bong is the fourth Korean juror to be selected for a major international film festival, following Lee in Berlin, director Lee Chang-dong in Cannes and Jeon Do-yeon in Venice.

Bong's English-language film debut "Snowpiercer," starring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton and John Hurt, was screened at last year's Berlin Film Festival. (Yonhap)
