The Chinese remake of the popular South Korean film "Miss Granny" has surpassed 10 million viewers in China, the movie's South Korean co-producer said Tuesday.

Since its release on Jan. 8 in 5,500 theaters across China, the Chinese-language film with the same English title, "Miss Granny," had been watched by 10,203,153 people as of Sunday, CJ E&M said.

It became the first South Korean-Chinese co-production film seen by more than 10 million people and the 11th most-viewed romantic comedy film in China, the company added.

Directed by Chinese filmmaker Leste Chen, who is best known for "The Heirloom" (2005) and "The Great Hypnotist" (2014), the film stars the rising Chinese actress Zi-Shan Yang and the veteran actress Kuei Ya-lei.

CJ E&M said it plans to make more joint venture films loosely based on the original Korean version of the film in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and other Asian countries.

The original 2014 film drew 8.65 million viewers in South Korea. Starring Korean actresses Shim Eun-kyung and Na Moon-hee, the comedy is about a 70-something grandmother who suddenly recovers the physical appearance of her 20s after visiting a mysterious photo studio. (Yonhap)
