Seoul city's population hits 6-year low in 2013

The South Korean capital of Seoul saw its population drop to the lowest level in six years in 2013 as more citizens moved out to nearby cities in search of cheaper housing, data showed Sunday.
  
Seoul's population stood at 10.39 million last year, down 100,500 from the previous year, according to the data by the municipal government.
  
A total of 1,520,090 people moved to Seoul last year, while
1,620,640 left the capital city.
   
Seoul's population had been on the decline since hitting 10.57 million in 2010, according to the city data.
   
Of the people who left Seoul last year, the largest number of 340,081 moved to Gyeonggi Province surrounding the capital, followed by the western port city of Incheon with 47,424 people.
   
Seoul, where nearly a fifth of South Koreans live, is notorious for high home prices. (Yonhap)
