South Korea's ICT ministry said Tuesday it will conduct an inspection of major telecommunications infrastructure as concerns grow from the latest hacking attacks on state facilities.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and specialists from information security firms will inspect some 100 servers and data centers of major online shopping malls, portals and mobile carriers from next month to locate any vulnerabilities to cyber attacks, the ministry said.

"We will look into the servers one by one," a ministry official said.

The move follows a series of information leaks related to the country's nuclear facilities last week. Government officials maintain that the leaked data, including diagrams of the reactors, internal designs and cooling systems, is not confidential nor information that could undermine the safety and security of the reactors. The investigation into the suspected hacking has made little headway, and South Korea on Monday asked for assistance in the probe from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation.

In response to the leak, the state-run Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) increased the number of real-time monitoring staff by 30 percent. (Yonhap)
