Jeju Air Co., South Korea's largest budget carrier, said Monday it will become the first budget carrier to start flight services linking Daegu, a city in South Korea, with Beijing in February, next year.

The company owned by Aekyung Industrial Co. said the three weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be offered from Feb. 13, 2015.

"At present local airlines only operate flights linking Incheon, Busan and Jeju with Beijing, so Jeju Air's new service will provide more choice for travelers, particularly among people living in and around Daegu," the low cost carrier (LCC) said.

Daegu is an industrial city located some 302 kilometers southeast of Seoul.

It said B737-800 passenger jets able to carry 186-189 people will be used on the new route.

This year alone Jeju Air, which has a fleet of 17 planes, launched two new flight services linking Daegu and Jeju Island, as well as between Daegu and the Thai capital of Bangkok.

The LCC said in the first 11 months of this year, it serviced some 1.39 million passengers, up 40 percent from 990,000 in the same period in 2013. (Yonhap)
