Foreign ministers from South Korea and 14 Pacific islands countries will meet in Seoul next week to discuss ways to promote mutual cooperation, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.

The talks, scheduled for Monday and the second of its kind, will be focused on development cooperation, climate change and maritime issues, the ministry said.

The ministry said that the talks will help promote South Korea's push for mini-lateral diplomacy as well as enhance cooperation in the areas of fishery and maritime resources development.

The foreign ministers plan to pay a courtesy call with South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Tuesday, it added. On the same day, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se also plans to hold a bilateral meeting with his counterparts from Fiji and Papau New Guinea, respectively, the ministry said.

The Pacific Islands consist of 12 nations and two of New Zealand's dominions, the Cook Islands and Niue. They are grouped into three areas of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia in terms of geography and culture. (Yonhap)
