Group discounts on express trains operated by Incheon Airport Railroad Express are gaining popularity among international travelers in Korea, according to the railway operator last week.

Since April, Incheon Airport Railroad has been offering a 25 percent discount per person on nonstop express trains for groups of four people or more as a means of attracting more travelers.

The discounted ticket fare is 6,000 won ($5.47) per person, down from 8,000 won.

“The proportion of foreigners using the group discount coupons reached 53 percent,” railway officials said. “It seems to us that our efforts to attract foreigners with multilanguage services and various online promotional activities are paying off.”

The officials also said that since the discounts were put in place, the number of travelers using this express train rose from 2,084 to 2,266 per day. Foreigners are estimated to account for 45 percent of the passengers.

Incheon Airport Railroad currently operates two types of trains. One is a nonstop express train from Seoul Station to Incheon International Airport Station, and the other is a regular train that stops at all 11 stations.
