Four South Korean archers qualified for the first elimination rounds at the individual recurve event at the Asian Games on Wednesday.

   In the men's division, Lee Seung-yun topped the qualifying table with a total of 1,377 points in recurve of 90ｍ, 70ｍ, 50ｍ and 30ｍ. Oh Jin-hyek and Ku Bon-chan were tied for second place with 1,362 points, but Oh, the 2012 London Olympic gold medalist, held the edge in inner-10s over Ku.

   Kim Woo-jin, the fourth and last member on the South Korean men's recurve team, fell short of advancing to both the individual and team recurve events with 1,353 points.

   The team rounds only allow three archers from each country to participate. The South Korean archery association has put together a set of complicated rules to determine which members represent South Korea at the team event. According to the rubrics, Lee, Oh and Ku qualified for the South Korean men's team event.

   In the women's recurve, Jung Dasomi and Chang Hye-jin finished first and second at the qualifiers with 1,364 points and 1,359 points, respectively.

   Lee Tuk-young came in third with 1,358 points, and Joo Hyun-jung was pipped to 13th with a disappointing 1,324 points.  

   Despite her hiccup on Wednesday, Joo will proceed to the team round on Friday, thanks to her solid results at past international competitions, which the archery association takes into account. Lee didn't make the cut, according to the rules.

   South Korea finished first in both men's and women's team qualifiers.

   South Korea has collected 33 Asiad gold medals in recurve. This year, compound has been added as a medal sport for the first time. (Yonhap)
