Students at Ewha Womans University recently visited Cambodia to give free tutoring for underprivileged children and teenagers there, school officials said Tuesday.

Members of Enbox, a student club at Ewha aiming to help society by volunteering, visited Phnom Penh last month to teach science and engineering to some 300 students and preschoolers.

A total of 17 students, led by environmental science and engineering professor Choi Yong-sang, held a variety of lessons at kindergartens, schools and welfare centers in Phnom Penh.

The volunteers donated the equipment used during the classes to local schools. The university said the project was made possible thanks to the active participation of the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Its students took part in the lessons and acted as a “bridge” between the Korean students and local children and teens, according to the officials.

Enbox, which first visited the country in February to aid the socially disadvantaged, plans to make the education volunteer work an annual event, officials said.
