A group of Korean teenagers aged 15 to 19 won silver medals in the world culinary cup in Manila, Philippines, last week.

Six students ― Kim Min-seung, Kim Ji-young, Kim Tae-gyeom, Baek Jang-sun, Jang Hong-chang and Hong Ji-young ― were awarded 10 silver medals in four sections in the 2014 Philippine Culinary Cup. The four sections included pasta, poultry, plated desserts and team challenge.

Two coaches of the Korean participants ― Cho Nam-soon and Lee Chul-ho ― also received silver medals in the professional section.

The Philippines Culinary Cup, held from Aug. 6-9, is one of three official competitions headed by the World Association of Chefs Societies. It is the only contest held in Asia.

More than 1,000 chefs from nine countries participated in the four-day competition.

Established in 1928 in Paris, France, the WACS promotes professionalism in cooking and improving international cooking standards.

As of 2010, 87 countries have joined the organization.
