At least 10 people were killed and two injured in South Korea as Typhoon Nakri battered the country’s southern region over the weekend, toppling trees and inundating bridges, disaster officials said Monday.

One person was hit and killed by an airborne object at a South Jeolla Province farm, the central disaster management agency said, announcing the death toll as of 6 a.m. Monday.

Another person was killed and two others hurt after a tree toppled over them at a camping site in North Gyeongsang Province, the agency said.

A family of six, including two infants, and a friend died after being swept away by rain-swollen water as they drove over an inundated bridge in North Gyeongsang, it added.

More than 13,000 households in the southern region experienced a blackout before power was restored by Sunday morning.

The typhoon also flooded 3,300 hectares of farmland and damaged crops at a 430-hectare orchard in South Jeolla Province, the agency said.

Sixteen houses were inundated and 11 were damaged, while six fishing boats were swept away by high waves.

More than a dozen roads were destroyed and 130 trees fell over before the season’s 12th typhoon dissipated off the southwestern coast at around 3 p.m. Sunday. (Yonhap)
