독일 우승…‘준우승 아르헨티나’ 메시, 골든볼 수상 영예

리오넬 메시(27, 아르헨티나)가 월드컵 준우승의 아쉬움을 골든볼 수상으로 달랬다.

아르헨티나는 14일(이하 한국시간) 리우 데 자네이루의 마라카낭 경기장에서 열린 독일과의 ‘2014 브라질 월드컵’ 결승전에서 연장 후반 괴체에게 결승골을 허용하면서 0-1 패배했다. 이로써 아르헨티나는 1986년 멕시코 대회 이후 첫 월드컵 우승이라는 목표달성에 실패했다.

국제축구연맹(FIFA)은 골든볼 후보 10명을 선정, 결승전이 끝난 후 그 결과를 발표했다. 트로피의 주인공은 메시였다. 비록 토너먼트에서 골을 터뜨리지 못했지만 메시는 조별리그 3경기에서 모두 골을 넣었고, 스위스와의 16강전에서는 결승골을 어시스트하는 활약을 펼쳤다.

Messi named World Cup Player of the tournament

Lionel Messi, who lost out on the World Cup title after Argentina's 1-0 loss to Germany in Sunday's final, was named the Golden Boot player of the tournament, according to AFP.
