Literature nerds will be rejoicing on Saturday, July 12, as spoken word events hit Ulsan and Busan.

The Cypher Rooftop Poetry Show will be returning to Cima Bar in Ulsan for an evening of open mic prose and poetry. Anyone wishing to perform a five-minute reading should arrive by 8 p.m. to register.

Open mic performances begin at 8:30 p.m., and all performers receive a free beer. This month’s event features readings by guest author Douglas F. Warrick, who will be selling copies of his new short story collection “Plow the Bones” for 15,000 won.

In Busan, the monthly open mic Wordz Only event will celebrate all forms of the written and spoken word at Cafe Radio from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Writers of all experience levels are invited to enter their names at 8:20 p.m. to share any form of poetry or prose.

Performers’ names will be drawn from a hat throughout the evening, and reading times should be between 7 to 12 minutes.

To get to Cafe Radio, leave Exit 1 of Kyungsung University Station, double back and take the first left. Cafe Radio is on the right on the second floor. Entry is free, but attendees are asked to purchase a drink.
