The members of mega K-pop group Super Junior have snagged their first win at the 2014 MTV Italian Music Awards, taking home the crown as the “Best Artist From The World.”
Super Junior beat out popular nominees Australian pop punk band 5 Seconds of Summer, French-Chilean hip-hop artist Ana Tijoux and South African rock band the Kongos. According to the MTV Italian Music Awards social tracker, the K-pop stars received the most fan tweets with more than 400,000 tweets, which even beat out the followings by global pop stars Justin Bieber and One Direction.
This year’s music awards ceremony, which was held over the weekend in Florence, Italy, marked the group’s first win, but second nomination. Last year Super Junior was nominated in the “Artist Saga” category at the 2013 MTV Italian Music Awards. However it lost to Italian singer Marco Mengoni.
Super Junior will be performing live in Seoul as part of SM Entertainment’s “SMTown Live” fourth world tour kicking off at World Cup Stadium on Aug. 15. Tickets will go on sale starting July 3.
