Actor Lee Seung-gi sustained a serious eye injury during the filming of “You’re Surrounded,” indefinitely suspending the airing of the SBS television series, the broadcasting station said Tuesday.

The actor was accidentally poked in his left eye by a fake sword while filming an action scene on Monday, the broadcaster said. The accident left him with corneal damage and frontal eye bleeding.

“Lee Seung-gi was engaged in an accident and is unable to return to the filming scene for the moment,” one of the SBS filming crew was quoted as saying.

The actor was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Lee reportedly insisted on returning to the scene to resume filming, but was discouraged by the doctors who urged a thorough examination of the wound.

The filming crew decided not to continue filming the drama as the lead character, played by Lee, was crucial in the rest of the scenes.

Instead, SBS will be airing the special episode of “You’re Surrounded” on Wednesday and the 10th episode on Thursday.

The show is an action-comedy drama about police officers at Gangnam Station in Seoul who dream of becoming heroic detectives.

In the Wednesday-Thursday drama, Lee plays defiant rookie police officer Eun Dae-gu with an IQ of 150 and photographic memory.
