International Women’s Day Korea and Seoul International Women’s Association will be holding an event to highlight the difficulties and achievements of women around the world on Saturday.

International Women’s Day has been celebrated internationally on March 8 since 1911, with IWDK holding events since its centenary in 2011. This is the first time SIWA will cohost the event.

The afternoon will begin with a reception, followed by performances by storyteller Kim Seung-ah, who will narrate “The Golden Tree” and gayageum performer and singer Na Kyoung-wha.

Guest speaker at the event will be Seoul National University professor Lynn Ilon.

Ilon holds degrees in anthropology, educational research, economics and international development education, and specializes in global knowledge economics and global learning systems, particularly in poor countries.

She will speak on the role and economic effect women have in managing food security in rural communities. There will be a question-and-answer session with Ilon after her presentation.

A coffee and networking session will be held after the event.

The event will take place at M-Plaza in Myeong-dong from 4:30-7 p.m.

Entry is 30,000 won per person, or 15,000 won for students, which covers refreshments.

Reservation is required. To book a spot or get more information, visit siwapage.com or contact internationalwomensdaykorea@gmail.com.
