Bayer Leverkusen's Son Heung-min was voted the South Korean male footballer of 2013 on Friday.

At the annual Korea Football Association Awards, Son topped the vote by media and the KFA’s technical committee to earn his first domestic player of the year honors.

The 21-year-old winger is currently tied for second on his Bundesliga club with seven goals, as Bayer Leverkusen trails the defending champ Bayern Munich by seven points in second place.

Son made a big splash last summer when Bayer Leverkusen acquired him from Hamburger SV for a club record 10 million euros in transfer fees. He has also been a fixture on the South Korean national team, netting four international goals in 2013.

Ji So-yun was voted the female player of the year for 2013. The Kobe INAC forward helped her Japanese team win its third straight championship, scoring nine goals to rank fourth in the league.

She will soon join Chelsea Ladies in England. Ji won the KFA honors in 2011 and 2012, and finished second in the voting last year. (Yonhap)
