Home appliance giant LG Electronics Inc. has encouraged its employees to finish their work on time as much as possible in a bid to promote work efficiency and productivity, officials said Tuesday.

LG Electronics said that the company encourages its employees in its headquarters in Seoul to get off work on time every payday.

The company also designates a special day on which its workers are permitted to leave the office at 6:00 p.m. to have more time with their families, according to LG Electronics.

“When people fully take a rest, work efficiency and productivity tend to rise,” said an official at LG Electronics.

LG Electronics is among Korean companies that are seeking to help their employees juggle work and private life in a balanced way in a society where long working hours used to be regarded as a path to success.

In September, Hanwha Group, whose businesses range from insurance to construction, launched the flexible work system for pregnant workers by cutting working hours. (Yonhap News)
