강남판 ‘타짜’…미인계로 재력가 꾀어 사기 도박

고급 헬스장에 오는 돈 많은 기업가나 의사 등을 상대로 사기 도박판에 끌어들여 수 억원을 뜯어낸 일당이 경찰에 붙잡혔다.

경찰서 관계자는 “이들은 피해자를 물색하는 모집책, 피해자들을 일당에게 소개하면서 수익금을 나누는 총책, ‘밑장빼기’ 등의 기술을 부리는 타짜, 타짜의 기술을 도와주는 선수 등으로 치밀하게 역할을 분담해 범행을 저질렀다”고 말했다.

도박단은 강남 고급 헬스클럽에서 피해자를 물색하여 함께 골프를 치고 식사를 대접하고 미모의 여성을 소개해주는 등의 수법으로 친분을 쌓아 도박판으로 그들을 유인하였다. 그들은 올해 초부터 최근까지 13차례에 걸쳐 5억 7000만 원 상당을 뜯어낸 혐의를 받고 있다.

일당은 구속된 이후에도 범죄를 은닉하기 위해 유치장에 비치된 책을 돌려보며 “진술을 검찰에서 번복하라, 고소인과 합의를 하라”는 등의 내용을 적어 조직적으로 움직인 것으로 드러났다.

사기단은 영화에서 등장할 법한 카드의 숫자나 무늬를 알 수 있도록 미리 카드 뒷면에 특별한 표시를 해놓은 ‘목카드,’ 상대패의 숫자를 의미하는 수신호나 특수렌즈 등을 이용한 것으로 알려졌다.

서울 송파경찰서는 사기 등의 혐의로 박모(59) 씨 등 5명을 구속했다고 30일 밝혔다. 경찰은 또 오모(26•여) 씨 등 2명을 불구속 입건하고 정모(54) 씨 등 달아난 3명을 쫓고 있다

경찰은 또한 박 씨 일당의 차에서 필로폰이 발견된 점과 “음료를 마신 뒤 정신이 혼미해졌다”는 피해자의 진술로 미루어보아 도박단이 베팅금액을 올리기 위해 피해자들에게 필로폰을 먹인 것으로 보고 혐의를 추궁하고 있다.

Gambling ring caught in movie-like scheme

A South Korean gambling ring was caught swindling billions of won from rich businessmen and doctors, the police reported on Monday.

The ring members used a range of sophisticated tricks and well-calculated strategies that seem to be modeled after famous crime movies.

“The criminals displayed surprising teamwork and used fancy gadgets that are featured in movies such as special lenses to produce tampered cards. They are also suspected of inserting illegal drugs into victims’ drinks,” an official from Songpa Police Station said.

The tricksters used upscale fitness centers to mingle with unsuspecting rich businessmen and doctors. Once they got to know the targets, the members entertained the victims with golf games and set up meetings with beautiful women whom they recruited to lower their guard. Afterward, they proposed a betting game only to lose intentionally at first, which was bait to lure them to the make-or-break gambling round.

Using the same method 13 times, the gambling ring reportedly raked in 5.7 billion won ($530,000).
