TV조선 프로그램 진행자로 발탁됐던 신정아의 방송 데뷔가 무산됐다.
30일 기자협회보에 따르면 TV조선은 다음달 중순 신설되는 토크프로그램 ‘강적들’의 공동진행자로 신정아 전 동국대 교수를 기용하려 했으나 여론의 부정적인 반응이 쏟아지자 이를 전격 취소했다.
TV조선 고위관계자는 이날 “지난주 검토과정에서 다양하게 의견수렴을 한 결과 신중하게 하는 게 좋겠다는 의견이 다수였다”며 “(MC 기용취소를) 수용하기로 했다”고 밝혔다.
이로써 ‘강적들’에는 신정아를 제외한 이준석 전 새누리당 비상대책위원, 황상민 연세대 심리학 교수, 이봉규 시사평론가, 김성경 아나운서등이 진행자로 합류할 것으로 보인다.
앞서 신정아는 대학 교수 겸 큐레이터로 활동해오다 예일대 박사학위 위조와 변양균 전 청와대 정책실장과의 부적절한 관계 등으로 파면 당했다. 또한 신정아는 미술관 공금 횡령 등의 혐의로 지난 2007년 10월 구속된 후 18개월 만인 2009년 4월 10일 보석으로 풀려난 바 있다.

TV Chosun backtracks on convicted professor as show host
Scandal-ridden former art professor Shin Jeong-ah was thwarted from making a debut as a TV personality, after a local cable channel on Monday canceled her appointment as a cohost for its new show.
According to the Journalists Association of Korea, TV Chosun had selected Shin to head its new talk show “Gang-jeok-deul (Powerful Adversaries)” -- slated to be aired next month -- but decided against it after a public backlash.
“It was found that the popular opinion was in favor of taking a cautious approach (toward the appointment of Shin),” an official from TV Chosun was quoted as saying.
Shin, a disgraced former professor of Dongguk University, shook the country in 2007 when she was convicted of embezzlement and fabrication of her academic record.
Many viewers said that it was not suitable for a cable channel to hire someone with a criminal record for a talk show.
The talk show was planning to hire six cohosts who would discuss current or past affairs. The final lineup for the show is still unknown as Kang Yong-suk, an outspoken former lawmaker who was another potential cohost, said last week that he would not join the show.
