Smart snack choices for slimmer and healthier body
The warm breeze and blossoming flowers signal that the spring has finally arrived in South Korea. It is certainly time to peel off those excess layers of heavy clothing. But what about that extra weight you gained over the winter?
A healthy way to slim down is to swap the fat-packed snacks with those containing whole-grain carbohydrates, powerful protein and healthy fat to keep you from feeling hungry and at the same time fuel your energy.
1. Throw away a 100-calorie snack pack of cookies and replace it with an individual pack of almonds.
Those portion- and calorie-controlled snacks somehow make us feel safe from excessive calorie intake, but they are rarely composed of nutritious foods. Instead, pick a pack of almonds that not only curbs the calories but also helps your health with protein, fiber, monounsaturated fat, vitamin E and calcium.
2. Replace the low-calorie cereal bar with a well-balanced energy bar.
Snack bars made of so many different ingredients such as soy beans, oatmeal and various fruits tempt our eyes and mouths. Though these small-sized bars may seem healthy and calorie-controlled, you should pay attention to their nutrition value. Instead of choosing bars touting the fewest calories, pick a well-balanced energy bar with its main source of sugar coming from fruits instead of sugar disguises such as agave or corn syrup.
3. Cookies and whole milk to cereal and low-fat milk
A cup of whole milk has the same amount of calories as that of a cup of low-fat milk plus two pats of melted butter. A cup of low-fat milk with a hint of whole grain cereal would be enough to satisfy the need for the crunchiness and sweetness of a cookie.
Minor swaps to daily snacks will boost energy and also help people slim down to get ready for the coming spring.
