A close inspection of a picture portraying North Korea’s latest military exercise reveals signs of manipulation, U.S. media reported. 

According to the Atlantic magazine, two out of eight hovercrafts approaching the east coast of Korea in the photo appear to have been digitally added.

The two vessels at the front of the image share identical shapes and have similar patterns of surf flying up the side. The other two at the furthest were also found to be identical. 

AFP, which distributed the photo from North Korea’s state media, has since removed it due to the suspicions.

North Korea has often digitally doctored pictures to exaggerate depictions of its military forces.

In February, the North conducted its third nuclear test, despite opposition from the international community. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have been rising sharply ever since, with Pyongyang issuing a series of threats against Seoul.

북한, 사진 조작 의혹.. 또?

북한이 최근 관영 매체를 통해 공개한 군사 훈련 사진이 조작된 것이라는 의혹이 제기됐다.

미국의 시사월간지 ‘더 애틀랜틱(The Atlantic)’은 사진 속 해안으로 들어오고 있는 공기부양정(Hovercraft) 8대 중 2대 정도가 조작된 것으로 의심된다고 보도했다.

사진 앞쪽에 보이는 두 척의 함대는 모양과 튀기는 파도의 모습까지도 똑같으며, 뒤쪽에 있는 두 척의 함대 또한 똑같은 모양을 하고 있어, 한 척을 복사해서 붙여넣은 것으로 보인다.

북한 관영 매체에서 입수해 처음으로 사진을 공개했던 AFP통신은 의혹이 제기되자 사진을 삭제했다.

북한은 그들의 군사력을 강조하기 위해 자주 이러한 수법을 사용해 왔다.

한편 북한은 지난 2월, 국제사회의 우려를 무시한채 3차 핵실험을 단행해 한반도의 긴장 수위를 높이고 있다.(코리아 헤럴드)
