말기 위암으로 투병해오던 울랄라 세션의 리더 임윤택씨가 11일 별세했다.

소속사 울랄라컴퍼니는 11일 “임윤택은 건강 상태가 급속히 악화돼 지난 8일 새벽 병원에 입원해 치료를 받아왔다”며 “이날 오후 8시40분께 가족과 울랄라세션 멤버들이 자리를 지키는 가운데 숨을 거뒀다”고 전했다.

한편 임윤택은 울랄라세션의 리더로 2011년 케이블채널 엠넷의 슈퍼스타케이3에서 빼어난 실력으로 우승을 차지해 화재가 됐었다. 울랄라세션은 프로가수 못지 않는 음악성과 퍼포먼스 등 실력을 과시하며 전국적으로 팬덤 문화에 불을 지피며 대활약을 펼쳤다.

임윤택은 지난 2011년 1월 위암 4기 진단을 받았다. 위암 4기는 암 덩어리가 수술로는 제거되기가 힘들 정도로 퍼진 상태로 다른 장기로 암세포가 전이되어 국소적인 치료가 어려운 경우다.

고인은 위암 말기 투병 중임에도 불구하고 무대 위에서 열정적인 퍼포먼스와 지치지 않는 에너지로 많은 이들의 귀감이 됐다. 그는 불굴의 의지로 슈퍼스타 K3 생방송 경연을 소화하고, 우승 후 전국 투어 공연을 벌이는 등, 음악과 삶에 대한 의지를 불태웠다.

그는 단순히 인기를 뛰어넘어 부드러운 카리스마를 가진 리더십으로 안 따르는 후배가 없었고, 위암을 넘어선 무대에 대한 열정은 보는 사람으로 하여금 임윤택에 대한 애정을 샘솟게 만들었다.

임씨는 지난해 부인 이혜림씨와 결혼, 현재 4개월된 딸이 있다. 빈소는 서울 신촌 세브란스 병원에 마련됐고 발인은 14일이다.

Ulala Session leader Lim Yoon-taek dies

Ulala Session leader Lim Yoon-taek passed away on Feb. 11, after battling gastric cancer for a number of years.

“Lim Yoon-taek passed away today in the hospital. On Feb. 8 his condition suddenly deteriorated and he had to be admitted to the hospital. The hospital announced that he had passed away due to cancer,” said an official of Lim’s agency.

Lim was the leader of the group Ulala Session, winners of the audition program Superstar K Season 3 in 2011. The popular group attracted fans with their vocal skills, flashy performances and great sense of humor.

The singer was diagnosed with stage 4 gastric cancer in January 2011. Stage 4 is the last stage of cancer, characterized by cancer cells spreading to nearby lymph nodes, liver, the pancreas, intestine, and other parts of the body.

Lim touched the hearts of many viewers through his determination to strive for his dreams despite his cancer. Throughout the course of Super Star K3 and many other broadcasts thereafter, Lim showed strong leadership and charisma as the leader of the group. Lim always gave audiences the wow factor, as he poured his energy and soul during his performances.

Lim Yoon-taek was married last year and has a daughter. His funeral will be held at the Yonsei Severance Hospital on Thursday.
